NGC 3079 is classified SBc.  Surface brightness is 12.3 magnitude, distance is 50 Mly. 
 

NGC 3079 is a Seyfert 2/LINEAR galaxy with an accretion disk and violent core outflow most likely driven by a water maser.  The clumpy core is also a star forming region.
