NGC 5005 is a LINER (Low Ionization Nuclear Emission-line Region) galaxy classified as SBbc.  Periodic inflows of gas to the central disk area trigger episodic starburst activity.  A type 1a supernova was observed in this galaxy in 1996.

Type SBbc, red shift distance 4 Mly.
